ABOUT CRIS SILVA

I’m glad you came!

In my 20 years as a translator, interpreter, consultant and voice-over talent, I’m happy to have lived a life immersed in languages. It all started with an opportunity to come to the United States on what would have been a one-year exchange, and culminated with me eventually earning a B.A. in English, French and Linguistics (and a minor in Theatre) from the University of Kansas. In between life then and now, I’ve also lived in Colorado, New York, Mexico City and all over Brazil (Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul; Joinville, Santa Catarina; Porto Velho, Rondônia and Parnaíba, Piauí).

Fast forward many years and I continue to live a life around foreign languages and translation and interpretation. After earning a first M.A. in Translation in 1997, from Kent State University in Ohio, in 2019, I finished my second master’s, the M.A.S. in Interpreter Training at the Université de Genève. I continue to enjoy working as a freelance conference interpreter, translator, terminologist, voice-over talent and cultural consultant close to our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.

Why should you hire me?

Bookworm and Worldwide Traveler

I have two masters. Together, they have taken me from Brazil, to the U.S., to Europe: in 1997, I earned an MA in Translation from Kent State University’s Institute for Applied Linguistics, in Kent, Ohio and in 2019, I earned an MAS from the Université de Genève (in Switzerland), in Interpreter Training

Linguistic Ninja and Word Juggler

I enjoy translating and interpreting and over the course of my 20-year-old career, I’ve translated, interpreted and consulted about: irrigation, fashion, business, aviation, weapons of mass destruction, law, etc., and I’m still eager to work in fields that make me learn what matters to you.

Customer service is in my DNA.

Besides translating, interpreting and consulting, I can also manage complex linguistic translation and interpretation projects and have also earned a Basic Terminology Manager Certificate from ECQA
